Eating Disorder Therapy
Eating disorder therapy at CTT Wellness offers specialized, weight inclusive care for adults, teens, and children navigating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, OSFED, and disordered eating that does not fit a clear diagnosis. You do not need a label to deserve support. You only need to know that something is not okay.
What Is an Eating Disorder?
Signs & Symptoms to Watch For
Eating disorders show up differently for everyone, but they always interfere with your life, health, and relationships. Recognizing these signs in yourself or someone you love is the first step toward healing. You do not need every sign to deserve help.
A relationship with food, eating, or your body that takes up significant space in your thoughts
Distress, anxiety, or shame around meals, weight, or your appearance
Rigid rules or rituals around eating that feel difficult to break
Withdrawal from friends, activities, or situations that involve food
Mood shifts, irritability, or co-occurring anxiety or depression
Physical changes that feel concerning, including changes in energy, sleep, digestion, or your menstrual cycle
If something feels off, that is reason enough to reach out. You do not need to wait until things get worse, and you do not need to “qualify.”
How Eating Disorder Therapy and Nutrition Support Work Together
Eating disorders require an integrated treatment approach because they affect both your mind and body. At CTT Wellness, we believe sustainable recovery happens when psychological therapy and nutritional support work hand-in-hand.
The role of nutrition counselling with a registered dietitian:
Your relationship with food has become complicated, frightening, or controlling. A specialized eating disorder dietitian helps you gradually normalize eating patterns, challenge food rules, understand how restriction and bingeing affect your body and brain, and rebuild trust with hunger and fullness cues. This isn’t about meal plans that feel like another diet—it’s about food freedom and nourishment that supports your life.
How therapy addresses the emotional and cognitive roots:
While nutrition work repairs your physical relationship with food, therapy addresses why the eating disorder developed in the first place. We explore the emotional pain you’re managing, the trauma you’re carrying, the perfectionism driving you, the identity struggles underneath, and the distorted beliefs about your body and worth. Therapy gives you healthier ways to cope with stress, regulate emotions, and find your sense of self beyond your body.
Collaborative, comprehensive care:
Your therapist and dietitian communicate regularly (with your consent) to ensure all aspects of your recovery are supported. When medical monitoring is needed for physical complications, we coordinate with physicians. This team approach means you’re never alone in this journey, and every part of you is being cared for.
A note on access
Our specialized eating disorder dietitian services are currently offered at our Grimsby and St. Catharines clinics, virtually within Ontario, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions. If you are connecting with us from Oakville or Kitchener, your therapist can coordinate care with our virtual dietitian team or external dietitian partners as part of your integrated treatment plan.
Eating Disorder Therapy Approaches We Use
We use evidence-based therapies specifically proven to treat eating disorders — not generic talk therapy. Each approach targets different maintaining factors of your eating disorder, from distorted thoughts to emotional dysregulation to relationship patterns. We will tailor treatment to your unique needs, combining modalities to give you the best chance at full, lasting recovery.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is one of the most widely researched and effective approaches for eating disorders, particularly bulimia, binge eating disorder, and disordered eating patterns. Your therapist will help you identify the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours that keep the eating disorder in place, and work with you to build healthier patterns around food, body image, and self-worth.
Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
When relationship difficulties, social isolation, grief, or life transitions fuel your eating disorder, IPT helps by improving your interpersonal relationships and communication skills. As you resolve conflicts and build healthier connections, eating disorder symptoms naturally decrease.
Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT is widely used for anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. You will learn four core skill sets: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Rather than fighting every difficult thought about your body, ACT teaches you to notice these thoughts without letting them control your actions. You will clarify your personal values and commit to behaviours aligned with the life you want to live.
Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Family-Based Therapy (FBT) and Family Involvement
Especially helpful for adolescents and young adults, family therapy recognizes that recovery happens within the context of relationships. We help families understand eating disorders, improve communication, and empower parents or partners to actively support recovery.
Available in person at our Oakville, Grimsby, and St. Catharines clinics, virtually across Ontario, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

You Do Not Have to Wait Until It Gets Worse
Eating Disorder Across Every Stage of Life
Whether symptoms started in childhood, emerged in adolescence, developed in adulthood, or surfaced later in life, specialized treatment can help you heal.
For children and pre-teens
For adolescents and teens
For adults
For older adults and midlife
Eating disorders can emerge for the first time or resurface after decades. Menopause, empty nest transitions, aging bodies, grief and loss, and retirement can all trigger or worsen disordered eating. Your struggle is valid regardless of when it began, and it’s never too late to seek the recovery you deserve.
Eating disorders rarely show up alone. Many people we work with are also navigating trauma and PTSD, anxiety and stress, or depression and mood challenges. Our integrated approach addresses what is happening underneath the eating disorder, not just the symptoms on the surface.
